Measurement technology for TU project

A project to analyze different interior insulation systems is currently underway at Graz University of Technology.

These systems are used wherever external insulation is not possible due to legal regulations. With internal insulation, the dew point is drawn further into the masonry, which is why the water condenses on the support beams. In the worst case, the wooden beams can rot through completely due to the high humidity and the resulting fungal infestation and cause the entire ceiling to collapse. The five systems or materials to be compared are applied to two times five test fields in two corner rooms one above the other. The aim of the three-year project is the fundamental analysis and further development of the component connections that tend to be problematic for interior insulation, such as transitions to wooden beam ceilings, intermediate ceilings and walls, window and door reveals and the product-neutral assessment of the use of ecologically harmless building materials, according to the project description.

The company Schaller GmbH provides the entire measuring equipment. Specially developed flush-mounted air humidity and temperature transmitters are used as sensors, which are characterized by their flat design. In addition, by means of humimeter BLW Devices measured the wood moisture content of the beams in order to detect damp spots in the entablature at an early stage. The entire sensor system is brought together in a control cabinet and transmitted to a computer for data recording via various interfaces.
