Analysing different systems of interior insulation

Currently the University of Technology in Graz is working on a project about analysing different systems of interior insulation. These systems are used when legal requirements don´t allow exterior insulation. As the dew point is located deeper inside the brickwork, water condenses on the roof beams. The worst case is that the roof beams become completely rotten due to the high moisture level and the resulting fungal decay, which may lead to the total collaps of the roof. In two rooms lying upon another the materials under test were installed in 5 test areas each. The aim of this 3-year project is the basic analysis and development of connections between construction elements tending to be problematic, such as roof beams, reveals, inserted ceilings and inserted walls, as well as the product neutral evaluation of environmentally benign building materials, says the project description. The entire measurement instrumentation for this purpose is provided by humimeter Schaller GmbH. Specially developed in-wall air humidity and temperature transmitters serve as sensors that stand out for their flat construction. In addition the moisture of the wooden beams is determined by humimeter BLW moisture meters, in order to be able to detect damp areas timely. The complete sensor system converges to a control box, which is linked to a computer for data recording via diverse interfaces.

Temperature control for a pumpkin seed dryer

Messtechnik Schaller realized for the company Estyria a full automatic temperature monitoring system for a totally new built pumpkin seed dryer with 10 drying chambers. For an ideal monitoring it is necessary to measure two temperatures for each chamber. The first one is in the floor of the chamber integrated and measures the deepest layer of the product. The second temperature is measured with an IR-probe slanted from above. Additional a mobile unit was realized, which is able to be fixed on any chamber. With the aid of this unit it is possible to generate a more accurate temperature profile. For a better control of the process a fluid flow probe, a temperature probe and an air moisture probe were installed to analyze the incoming air. All probes are merged analyzed, controlled a visualized on a central SPS.The SPS interacts via Ethernet with a computer in a 100m distance. This computer collects, visualize and archives all data. So it is possible to control the process out of the office. It is also possible to analyze the data at a later moment to optimize the drying process.
